This sculpture is my response to the heroin overdose deaths of two teens in our community and the epidemic in our country. There are two syringes in the chambers and one protruding from the barrel of the gun. The grip is a prescription vial, turned upside down. The gun rests on a foundation of prescription pills which have clearly been the foundation of the current heroin epidemic. The red patina signifies the blood of our community that has been spilled. The granite base takes the form of a gravestone.  This sculpture sends a strong message to my children (and hopefully others) about the choices they make, the people they associate with, and the consequences that can result.  I truly wish this sculpture did not need to exist.
