My last day before heading off to art school was wonderful but emotionally difficult. Heidi and I opened Hallett Veterinary Hospital together in 1998. That was our largest “public art” project. Practicing the art of veterinary medicine and surgery in a building that was as much an art gallery as an animal hospital. We have displayed our physical art (paintings and sculpture) alongside our veterinary art made up of all our patients, staff and their families. It was hard to leave all that (even temporarily), although I keep reminding myself that I am not leaving it behind. I’m not running AWAY from veterinary practice but I am running TOWARD my art practice. I have so many ideas and concepts in my head that only I can bring to life. I’m dedicating the next two years to my art practice while being available as a resource to HVH.
